BIG NEWS. I’ve talked about ways to improve the public space in front of the Art Gallery and the need for a public square in the heart of downtown Vancouver. Looks like the City is finally on board! The 800 block of Robson Street will remain closed to vehicles until the end of this year and city staff will look into the possibility of a permanent closure of the block between Hornby and Howe Streets.
I know this is an inconvenience to drivers (trust me, I have often had to drive all the way around the Art Gallery to head south downtown when this block of Robson is closed - not fun), but the people of Vancouver deserve a thriving public space and this will be it!

The site will continue to be used as a pedestrian plaza this fall, as city staff look into the possibility of a permanent closure of the block between Hornby and Howe Streets.”
