I am learning “The Wind Cries Mary” right now on my guitar. And today I saw this picture on awesomepeoplehangingouttogether of Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. Did you know Jimi Hendrix went to school in Vancouver for a time while living with his grandma???
There is a shrine to him in what used to be Hogan’s Alley (it was Vancouver’s African-American neighbourhood until it was torn it down in the 1970s to build the Georgia Viaduct). From 1950 until 1976, the now-shrine was known as Vie’s Chicken and Steak House, where Jimi Hendrix’s grandmother Nora worked as the cook. “She lived down on East Georgia Street,” the owner Vincent Fodera said. “Jimi’s parents would bring him from Seattle and dump him here.”
